The Settings tab in MoveData controls how the app connects to Salesforce, who receives error alerts, how much detail appears in logs, and which extensions are active. This article covers each setting and explains when to change it.

Before you begin#

You need:

  • The MoveData Administrator permission set assigned to your Salesforce user. See Permission sets for details.
  • Salesforce System Administrator access or equivalent permissions to modify app settings.

Accessing settings#

  1. Open the MoveData app in Salesforce.
  2. Click the Settings tab.

The Settings tab contains two default sub-tabs: General and Extensions. When you install an extension, additional sub-tabs appear for extension-specific configuration.

General settings#

The General sub-tab has three sections.

Authorise MoveData#

MoveData processes notifications and creates records in Salesforce under the context of an authorised user. This user appears as the record creator and modifier for all records MoveData touches.

The Authorise MoveData section displays the currently authorised user and provides controls to manage authorisation.

Control Purpose
Authorised User Displays the Salesforce user MoveData currently runs as.
Refresh Renews the authorisation token without changing the authorised user.
Authorise Opens the Salesforce OAuth flow to change the authorised user.

Salesforce Integration user licence

The MoveData Authorised User typically holds a full Salesforce licence. If you want to use a free Salesforce Integration licence instead, see Using a Salesforce Integration User Licence for the additional configuration required.

Use a dedicated service account

Create a dedicated Salesforce user for MoveData rather than using a personal account. This avoids disruption if a team member leaves or changes role, and makes it easier to audit MoveData activity in Salesforce.

For full guidance on choosing and configuring the authorised user, see The MoveData Authorised User. To change to a different user, see Change the Authorised User.

Error notifications#

Error notifications send an email whenever a notification receives a Failed status during processing. This lets you respond to issues without manually checking the MoveData app.

To configure error notifications:

  1. Enter an email address in the Email address field.
  2. Click Update to save.

MoveData sends failure alerts to the specified address from that point onwards.

Note

You can enter only one email address. To notify multiple people, use a distribution list or shared mailbox address.

Logging#

Logging controls how much detail MoveData records when processing notifications. Execution logs are your primary tool for understanding what MoveData did during processing and for troubleshooting issues.

The Logging section has two controls:

  • Log Level — sets the verbosity of log entries:

Level What it records When to use
ERROR Errors only. Stable production integrations where you only need to know about failures.
WARN Errors and warnings. Production monitoring with slightly more visibility.
INFO General processing information. Day-to-day use. This is the default and recommended level.
DEBUG Maximum detail, including internal processing steps. Active troubleshooting of a specific issue.
  • Log Sensitive Data — when active, MoveData includes actual field values in log entries rather than just field names.

Keep DEBUG and Log Sensitive Data short-lived

DEBUG logging and Log Sensitive Data generate large volumes of log data and may include personally identifiable information. Enable them only for short troubleshooting sessions, then switch back to INFO with Log Sensitive Data inactive.

For guidance on reading logs, see Viewing execution logs.

Extensions#

The Extensions sub-tab displays the extensions available for your MoveData installation. Extensions are managed packages containing Lightning Flows and metadata that define how MoveData processes data into Salesforce for a specific data model.

Three extensions are available:

Extension Data model What it covers
Nonprofit Cloud: Fundraising & Donations and Commerce Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud Donations, recurring donations, commerce, and ticket data.
Non-Profit Success Pack: Fundraising & Donations NPSP Donation and recurring donation data.
Non-Profit Success Pack: Commerce NPSP Commerce and ticket data.

Installing an extension#

  1. Click the Extensions sub-tab.
  2. Locate the extension you want to install.
  3. Click Install next to the extension name.

After installation, an extension-specific sub-tab appears in Settings with additional configuration options for that extension.

Note

Install only the extension that matches your Salesforce data model. If you use NPSP, install the NPSP extensions. If you use Nonprofit Cloud, install the Nonprofit Cloud extension.

For a detailed overview of what extensions do and how they work, see Understanding extensions.

Extension-specific settings#

Once you install an extension, its sub-tab appears alongside General and Extensions in the Settings tab. Each extension sub-tab contains configuration options specific to that extension's data model, such as default record types, field mappings, and processing rules.
