Organisation accounts created as anonymous households
When MoveData processes company information, it should create or match an Organisation account in Salesforce. If your Salesforce profile is misconfigured, MoveData may create an anonymous Household account instead.
How to identify this issue#
You may notice new accounts with names like "Anonymous Household" or "[Company Name] Household" appearing in Salesforce. These accounts have the Household record type instead of the Organisation record type.
What causes this issue#
NPSP uses the Household Account Model. In this model, individual contacts belong to "[Last Name] Household" accounts, and companies use a separate Organisation record type.
When MoveData creates a new account, Salesforce assigns the default record type from the MoveData Authorised User's profile. If that profile's default Account record type is set to Household, all new accounts — including company accounts — are created as Household records.
Note
This issue only affects new Organisation accounts. Existing Organisation accounts that MoveData matches against are not changed.
How to fix it#
Update the default Account record type on the MoveData Authorised User's profile.
- Open Setup in Salesforce.
- Type "Profiles" into the Quick Find box and select Profiles.
- Click the profile assigned to the MoveData Authorised User (usually System Administrator).
- Scroll to Object Management and find Account.
- Under Record Types, set Organisation as the default record type.
- Click Save.
Warning
Make sure you edit the correct profile. The profile must be the one assigned to the MoveData Authorised User, not your own user profile.
After fixing the issue#
Once you have updated the default record type:
- Reprocess the failed notifications. For steps, see How to reprocess failed notifications.
- Check the reprocessed records to confirm they now have the Organisation record type.
- Review any previously created anonymous Household accounts and update their record types manually if needed.
